The History of this Mission
Having only one house in Nord East and that too in a place without Catholic population we always desired to have another companion community. It was our long cherished dream to have a house in Tezpur Diocese since we had heard about it’s flourishing catholic population and what attracted us is the fact that there are hundreds of vocations from this place still. When we received the permission from our Superiors to start one more mission,Sr. Alponsa Manikathan the Superior of the community consulted with the Archbishop himself as well as many fathers and all of them suggested to us to contact the Bishop of Tezpur. It was thus we took contact with most Rev. Acacius Toppo and requested him for an appointment. When we met him, we presented our need and desire to have a second house in Nord East and that too in this Diocese, he was very kind to us and told us about this land in Kabirali.
Mother General Ernestina Pomorolli and Sr. Mary the Regional Superior along with Sr. Alphonsa went to Tespur Bishop’s House. Earlier we had gone to meet the Bishop and request him to allow us to have a convent in his diocese. At that time he accepted and had suggested us one land of which already registration is over but everything else to be done. Though it was very late, already dark, seeing our vehicles, neighboring Catholics came running in many to wish us and show the land with torch lights and so on…. Beautiful place on the road side but bare and as the bishop had told us everything has to be done! So it may be possible by mid of 2019 to start a house there. Now the ball is in our side….”
