Driven by an ideal to ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God’, Elena Bettini, a young Roman Christian woman, along with Father Tommaso Manini, started the congregation – ‘Daughters of Divine Providence’, in 1832.
Today, our institute is an international Congregation who are called by God to a life of poverty, obedience, and chastity, lived in the communities. We strive to live our motto: “seek first the Kingdom of God” in prayer and in service with a “Trustful abandonment in the Divine Providence”.
Our Charism is derived from the Gospel of St. Mathew Chapter 6, verses 23 to 34: “look at the lilies in the field ……………….. . This is an anchor for each sister to assert like our father Founder: “You do not belong to yourselves, but belong to God”. Our strength is that God keeps our lives in His hands. He continuously creates our being; He moulds our hearts and our existence and He is our Provident Father”.
The Daughters of Divine Providence are called to live and transmit this message of great hope.“ Even the hairs of your head have been counted”. Our Founders have written with their lives a beatitude of abandonment to the will of the Father, and have taught us to become the joy of providence to little children, the old and abandoned, the poorest and the least of our society, thus passionately searching for the reign of God.
